NEW DELHI: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-mains) 2023 application process is starting from third week of November and the tests are to be conducted in mid-January and April, while the online applications for the Common University Entrance Test-UG (CUET-UG) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-undergraduate (NEET-UG) are likely to commence from February and March next year respectively. CUET-UG is likely to be conducted from the third week of April, while NEET-UG is likely to be conducted on the first Sunday of May.
As per the planning underway for the exams for admission to engineering, medical and various undergraduate programmes for the academic session 2023-24, the JEE-mains will be conducted twice, while NEET-UG and CUET-UG will continue to be once in a year exam.
While NEET-UG recorded an all-time high of over 18 lakh registration in 2022, CUET-UG in its maiden edition recorded close to 15 lakh registrations, while JEE-mains recorded around 9.5 lakh registrations.
According to a senior official with the ministry of education, the exam schedule will be as per pre-pandemic calendar starting with JEE-mains. “The schedule is being finalised by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The pre-pandemic calendar would be resumed. JEE-Mains will be conducted twice – in January and April, while CUET-UG is likely to be conducted from the third week of April. As is the convention, NEET-UG is likely on the first Sunday of May.”
The ministry official said that as per information received from NTA, more universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) are going to participate in the CUET-UG for their undergraduate admissions, which include State and private universities.
“This year around 90 universities, majority of which are central universities, participated in the common entrance. Many new universities have approached NTA and the number of participating universities are likely to go beyond 120,” said the official.
Technical glitches in the CUET-UG 2022 caused inconveniences to candidates and parents. Tests in some centres had to be cancelled and in some centres it started late. Moreover, some candidates missed out on courses and institutions due to inaccurate subject mapping exercises. Also in some cases participating universities delayed announcing their counselling schedules .
