LUCKNOW: A youth allegedly killed a girl in Dubagga on Friday by slitting her throat when she turned down his marriage proposal. The accused later uploaded his “confession” on Facebook, in which he also announced that he is ending his life. According to police, the body of the 17-year-old victim has been recovered, but the youth, Rohit Rawat, 20, is missing. His mobile phone is also switched off.
According to police, both the victim and accused lived in the same locality and were family friends. They both belonged to families of farmers and had dropped out of school after class X.
Deputy commissioner of police, South Zone, Rahul Raj, said that the victim had stepped out of her house around 6:30 am, but did not return home. After an hour, her family started looking for her and found the body. Locals informed police which sent the body for autopsy. Police also recovered a sharp-edged knife lying near the body.
“Later, the family lodged an FIR accusing Rawat of killing the girl. Police found that the youth was also missing from his house since early morning. During the probe, cops came across the Facebook post in Rawat’s account, in which he had uploaded two hand-written pages along with a photograph in which he can be seen standing with the victim and her cousin in Imambara,” he added.
“According to the letter supposedly penned by Rawat, he killed the girl because she refused to marry her. He claimed that he is also killing himself. He has also written that no post-mortem examination of the bodies should be done. He also asks his parents not to cry over his death. He then addressed the girl’s mother and said that he loved her daughter and wanted to marry her, but she considered it a crime,” said the DCP.
